Q&A with Jessica Litman

What interests you most about taking on DIY projects?
I love being able to transform old things into new life. I am a firm believer in only keeping things you use, so DIY projects are a great way to repurpose items so you leave nothing to waste!

What creative areas do you prefer to focus on?
I feel that organizing is my creative area. Because there is a lot of thinking and planning and decorating with organizing, it has been such a creative outlet for me these past 7 years. I do love DIY projects and transforming old things into new as well!

What do you consider to be your greatest business accomplishment thus far?
Great question! I have a few but I will say being asked to speak at events has been a huge highlight for me. I get to share what I love, which is organizing, with a large audience of people!

What has been your most difficult project that you’ve tackled?
I would say the most difficult project would have been working with a client who was a borderline hoarder. The family had collected stuff from both sides of the family and weren’t using any of the items so their entire house was full of boxes of things. We had to sort through all the boxes and really dig deep, emotionally into why the family felt they had to hold onto so many things. It was a long process but really fantastic reward!

Do you have a brand partner that you consider to be your favorite?
I have truly loved working with ShurTech and iDesign. They have been so incredible to work with because I am allowed creative freedom to create content I know my audience will love, which helps support their brands.

Which platform helps you to reach your audience the most, and how do you keep them engaged?
I love Instagram and TikTok for sharing real time events. I feel I get the most engagement through my email list. And I get the most blog traffic through Pinterest. Facebook is where I get a lot of video views and engagement as well!

Based upon your personal experience, what’s one piece of advice that you’d give to blogger/influencers?
My biggest advice for anyone new looking to be a blogger or influencer is if something peaks your interest, just give it a try! When I first started I just was trying everything that interested me. There was no strategy or plan. I just was wrtiing about what I loved. Once I found my groove, I still play around in my niche because it is fun to try new things. But never get so focused on only doing one thing. That is the quickest way to burnout!

What’s one fun fact about you that our readers would be surprised to know?
I cannot whistle. Like it is pathetic and my husband makes fun of me all the time.

What do you like most about HAVEN Conference?
I love connecting with other DIY, decor, and organizing bloggers!

What do you want your audience to take away from your presentation at the Heart of HAVEN virtual conference?
My biggest takeaway I hope the audience gains from my presentation is how to organize your life, both physical space and work space, to help your business!
