Q&A with Yuni Min

What interests you most about taking on DIY projects?
For me, it’s the thrill of making something with my own two hands. I love gaining new skills by using power tools and creating something custom as opposed to just buying it. If I can’t find something I’m looking for, I attempt to build it! There’s great pleasure in seeing something go from your vision to reality.

What creative areas do you prefer to focus on?
I will always love designing spaces. Most likely, there will be a DIY project in most of my designs but styling is what I look forward to most at the end of a project.

What do you consider to be your greatest business accomplishment thus far?
My greatest accomplishment is turning my passion into a business. I love the flexibility my job offers and the fact that I get to exercise my creativity every single day. My hope is to encourage readers to gain the confidence to own their style and create a home they love.

What has been your most difficult project that you’ve tackled?
Most definitely, our hardest project to date is our master bathroom renovation. I learned how to demo, install tiles, use all sorts of tools and do it all under 5 weeks! It was so much work but the outcome was worth it in the end.

Do you have a brand partner that you consider to be your favorite?
I have been so fortunate to work with a number of amazing brands. I love working with Home Depot because they have always supported my vision and I have done so many projects with them to date. I call Home Depot my second home because I’m always there scheming my next project. I also love how much they give back to communities nationwide. They have always been very inclusive and intentional about sharing the talent from a diverse group of DIY-ers.

Which platform helps you to reach your audience the most, and how do you keep them engaged?
Instagram is probably my favorite platform because I love to share my day to day projects and behind the scenes with my readers on Instastories. It’s much more laid lack and I get to be my goofy, ridiculous self.

Based upon your personal experience, what’s one piece of advice that you’d give to blogger/influencers?
Stop looking at what others are doing and focus on your own strengths. Hone your skills and share at your own pace. It’s easy to get sidetracked and pulled into what you think you should be doing. You have your own unique voice so use it to reach your audience. Seek to educate and inspire your people.

What’s one fun fact about you that our readers would be surprised to know?
I majored in Sociology and Spanish in college. I would have never imagined I would become a DIY/Home decor blogger!

What do you like most about HAVEN Conference?
My favorite part of HAVEN is connecting with other bloggers. I have formed so many wonderful friendships through blogging and I look forward to connecting with my friends at HAVEN every summer. I love the collaboration vs competition attitude that so many bloggers have. There is great power when we support each other.

What do you want your audience to take away from your presentation at the Heart of HAVEN virtual conference?
The first time I attended HAVEN, I was so overwhelmed because I received mounds of helpful information. One of the best pieces of advice that I remember was to take 1-2 things that I learned and implement them after the conference. Naturally, you will feel there are a hundred things you need to do but instead, just focus on a couple of things. Choose two things like improving your photography skills and pitching to brands. Those two things alone are big tasks that could really help take your blog to the next level.
